If you would like to transfer a domain name from one registrar to another, you will have to go through a couple of safety procedures. One of them is getting a special EPP authentication code from the current registrar – on the condition that you are the domain registrant, since the code is emailed to the domain owner’s email address and nobody else can see it. You’ll have to provide this code to the new registrar, or else they won’t be able to initiate the domain name transfer process. The EPP authorization codes are case-sensitive and may comprise of digits or special characters such as commas or dots, which can be easily miswritten, so make sure you copy and paste the right code. As an additional protection measure, the transfer code for a domain name may be reset regularly. Some domain registrars call this code a domain secret, an Auth key or a domain password as well.
