The .SE ccTLD was created in 1986 and assigned to Sweden. During the first years after its establishment, the registration process was pretty restrictive, so a very limited number of domain names were acquired. Individuals were permitted to grab only one domain under .PP.SE (“pp” stands for “private person”). Local presence was a must, i.e. merely Swedish individuals, firms and organizations could reserve a .SE domain. In 2003, however, the registration process was liberalized notably and, accordingly, the number of .SE domains has been mounting each year.
